The gesture computer interface from Minority Report

Wired’s GeekDad blog gave mention to the gesture computer interface from Minority Report in their post, “The 10 Most Useful Gadgets from Science Fiction and Comics.”

Was there any geek who saw this film who didn’t feel a bit disappointed when he came home and sat down at his gesture-ignoring computer? The interface was seriously cool, and, unlike many (if not most) futuristic computer interfaces in movies, actually seemed like it might be usable.

Here’s a YouTube video of the interface from the movie:

It’s Not Science Fiction – It’s the Air Force

A new set of commercials from the United States Air Force, which have received some criticism,  show some Avatar-esque and other Hollywood reminiscent computer interfaces, including 3D holographic interactive interfaces.  The first is their space-based program, the second a Mars based mission.  The tag line:  It’s not science fiction.  It’s what we do every day.

Followed by some shots of their (purportedly) real interfaces:

Next is the Mars mission.  Here’s apparently the view from inside a soldier’s sunglasses:

Which we can see from our base on Earth:

And track targets as if we were playing a first person shooter:

And finally a shot of the Air Force’s real interfaces:

Here’s the YouTube videos of each:
